Does anyone know who they belong to? They have been on the racecourse estate for about a week now, and for the last few days have been at the top of Sandown Rd and Taunton Close, two of them actually just wandered in through my back door then wandered back out again!!!

Here is the article from the MEN around the middle of June:

Quote "The flock belong to the McCrory family of Tenement Lane in Bramhall – and it's not the first time they have disappeared. The family also keep hens, ducks, dogs, rabbits and horses.

Cathy McCrory, 42, thought the five birds may have gone for good when they disappeared earlier this month, only for them to return again to the delight of her two children Cara, eight, and Johnnie, four.

But the birds took off for another flight of fancy last week.

Mrs McCrory is now in talks with the RSPB and experts at Knowsley Safari Park over the possibility of clipping their wings.

She said: “The children were really pleased when they came back and are excited that their peahens have become famous with people taking pictures of them.

“They often fly off but had never been gone as long as this. We thought we may not see them again. The majority of people enjoyed their unusual visitors. But it is better if they don't feed them because then the peahens are more likely to stay. If they get hungry they'll come home."

Philip McGowan, director of The World Pheasant Association, based at Newcastle University, said sightings of peacocks in suburbia were becoming increasingly common.

He said: “There are a surprising number of peacocks and peahens in the UK. They can cope quite well ferally because people feed them. They are big birds and cannot fly over long distances. They will fly up to roost however.” Unquote
